about

Dual dreams had me in a rowboat with Dizzy Gillespie, who was teaching me a bass line. Others encouraged me. In the 2nd dream I was in a little boat out on the ocean. Storm; the boat turns over. A dolphin swims up and saves me, giving me a terrific ride through the waves.

3 beats, with a debt to a South American groove. The open top strings of the guitar, B and E, are pedals whose feelings change as the keys slide downward, alternating different types of major and minor.

lyrics

Dizzy taught me a bass line
to fathom the design
how to float on the line
and in our boat we sang
while the moon darkened the design
